Utochkin, a music hall in Odesa, hosted the first full-fledged joint concert of Oleh Skrypka, the leader of the VV band, and the Zabava jazz band. Initiated by Skrypka, an indefatigable experimenter and seeker of new musical forms, this artistic project is situated at the intersection of the cabaret jazz of the 1930s, Ukrainian romances, French chansons, and classical rock’n’roll, reports UNIAN.

Skrypka’s premiere made waves in Odesa. The first part featured works by the Lviv-based song writer Bohdan Vesolovsky from Skrypka’s new solo album “My tender heart.” In the second part, the audience was treated to a series of world hits in surprising interpretations: the feminist march “Rien De Rien” turned into reggae; Salvatore Adamo’s romantic ballad “Tombe La Neige” became a merry Gypsy song; the song “Vesna” (Spring), which was stylized in the R&B style of the 1920s, inspired the audience to sing along. The orchestra gave three encores, and the audience, a standing ovation.

One of the people in the music hall said: “This was a real storm! It was as if Leonid Utesov, Elvis Presley, and … Oleh Skrypka came to the same stage!” That evening a new contract was signed, and the second show will come to Odesa on December 9.
