Ukrainian triathletes keep winning prizes in international events. In the latest stage of the European Cup in Quarteira, Portugal, our national team was represented by Anastasia Chernenko and Danylo Sapunov, who is leading in the Olympic event. With a result of 01:54:02, Sapunov climbed the third step of the pedestal, winning his first prize in this pre-Olympic season (the 2012 Olympics in London), reports the press service of the National Olympic Committee. Vincent Louis, France, won with 01:53:23, while his fellow countryman Frederic Belaubre got the silver award (01:53:32).
Germany’s Anne Haug won the event for women (02:06:41), while our Anastasia Chernenko placed 27th (02:17:10).
Serhii Bubka, president of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, congratulated Sapunov on his bronze medal and wished him to replenish his collection of medals with each new start. We would like to remind our readers that a triathlon is an Olympic multi-sport event, involving swimming, cycling, and running.
