1708: The Russian Orthodox Church anathemizes Hetman Ivan Mazepa of Ukraine for having turned traitor to Peter I.

1945: Lokhvytsia sugar refinery is rebuilt and made operational in Poltava oblast.

1963: St. Clement’s Ukrainian Catholic University is established in Rome.

1990: Minsk hosts a meeting of democratic parliamentary delegations from Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, and Latvia.

1992: The Ministry of Justice registers the Christian Democratic Party of Ukraine.

2004: The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine holds an extraordinary session during which Viktor Yushchenko swears allegiance to the Ukrainian people as a new head of state.
