On August 21-23 Stare Selo, Lviv oblast, will host a festival of Ukrainian culture and music West-2010. It is aimed at promoting and supporting Ukrainian music, literature and art. The festival organizers also want to develop the youth’s taste for active leisure, and interest for tourist destinations in Ukraine.
The festival will take place in the biggest castle of the region. Its fortifications were built back in the 16th century. The decision to hold the event on the territory of the castle was caused by the desire of the organizers to develop interest for architectural monuments among Ukrainians.
The slogan of the current West-2010 is “Own culture. Because it is neat.” The festival will include different kinds of entertainment, such as soccer, volleyball and frisbee competitions. Over 30 bands are invited to fill the music program completely. Among them are Ot Vinta, Mertvyi Piven, Nedilia, Dymna Sumish, the VIO, Flaiza, Gorgisheli, Karna, Tin Sontsa, Orkestr Yanky Kozyr, Kholodne Sontse, Bandurbend, Los Colorados, KoraLLi, and ethno foundation TaRuta.
The literature program will also be rich. Literary readings and slam will take place. The theater segment will include modern performances. At the same time, on the territory of the castle, the fair, master classes of different crafts, medieval and national dance performances, battle reconstructions, fire shows and Cossack entertainment will take place.
