February 27: 1939. The First Congress of the Ukrainian Composers opened, creating the Union of Composers.

1990. The USSR Supreme Soviet established the institute of the President of the Soviet Union.

February 28: 1654. Polish king Jan II Kazimierz issued a Universal summoning the Zaporozhzhian Cossacks to maintain their loyalty to Rzeczpospolita.

1918. The Soviet Army retreated from Kyiv.

March 1: 1918. The Little Rada of the UNR ratified the laws on a monetary system, state emblem, citizenship, and administrative division of Ukraine.

1918: The Ukrayinsky Robochy Dim [Ukrainian Workers’ House] cultural and educational society was founded by Ukrainian Canadians in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

March 2: 1861 . Serfdom was abolished in the Russian Empire.

1993. The Academy of Medical Sciences was founded by a decree of the President of Ukraine.

March 3: 1918. The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk was signed by Communist Russia, acknowledging Ukrainian independence.

1994. The USA and Ukraine signed a common declaration on developing bilateral friendship and cooperation.

March 4: 1919. The Council of People’s Commissars of the Ukrainian SSR issued a decree liquidating tuition fee for secondary schools.

1989. The founding conference of the Ukrainian Memorial Cultural and Educational Society was held in Kyiv.

March 5: 1939. Kyiv State University was renamed for Taras Shevchenko.

1992. Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed the law On the Representatives of the President.
