Where there is no law, but every man does what is right in his own eyes, there is the least of real liberty

Young Banderites Vs. Lukashenka

29 February, 2000 - 00:00

The Youth Congress of Ukrainian Nationalists (MKUN, adherents of the late Stepan Bandera) picketed the Belarusian Embassy in Kyiv on February 22. Its press release declared action was organized as a sign of protest against the Belarusian authorities’ ban of the Ukrainian Cultural-Educational Association of Brest oblast, the Brest Oblast Taras Shevchenko Prosvita Association, and the closure of the newspapers Holos Beresteishchyny and Visti Beresteishchyny.

Interestingly, in response to the Ukrainian government’s attempt to broaden the usage of Ukrainian in Ukraine, albeit slightly (not a word about closing down any ethnic Russian cultural centers, mind you), the Russian Foreign Ministry and Ombudsman issued condemnations.
