Kamianets-Podilsky stands third among Ukrainian cities in the number of its cultural and natural attractions, recognizing only Kyiv and Lviv as its betters, and the city knows how to do amazing feats. Tourists from all over Ukraine, as well as Poland, Romania, Croatia and Belarus came there on April 20. The brass bands marathon not only cheered up the locals and guests of the city alike, but also set a national record, as it had Ukraine’s largest children’s orchestra among its participants. The National Project Book of Records of Ukraine’s representative Oleksandr Shusteruk observed: “I am pleased to see Khmelnytsky region doing amazing feats every time we come here. For example, the National Project found the 213-meter-long bench in the town of Slavuta to be Ukraine’s largest in 2012. I was proud to witness another record today, as 150 young children were performing two orchestral works that I think touched everyone.” This latest project was a brainchild of the Khmelnytsky Oblast State Administration’s head Vasyl Yadukha who stated that the region’s residents should be proud of its new achievements and work to improve its image further. The event also saw the Podillia Tourist sculpture unveiled and the dance marathon PLAZA DANCE City Hall held, with its 500 participants performing artistic, beautiful dances.
The opening day’s organizers had even more amusements in store for both locals and tourists. Preparing to the season’s opening, the city council announced the competition for the best design of the fortress’s illumination. Kamianets-Podilsky chose a Poltava team’s design as the best of all submissions. They presented their work to the whole city as soon as dusk started falling. The ancient fortress turned into a magnificent night-covered beauty, illuminated with red and yellow rays. Following the light show, young people took part in the charity event “Burning Hearts” to help orphans.
Khmelnytsky region has opened its doors to tourists and showed only a fraction of its charms. Therefore, it sincerely invites everyone to come there!
