The raion center of Zalishchyky, Ternopil oblast, saw a bust of Krushelnytska, a famous opera diva born in the region, erected there on October 31. The singer visited the town in 1905 with her Shevchenko concert program, performing in the former cinema building. The street and the public garden where the monument was erected had been already named after Krushelnytska. The unveiling’s attendees included officials and public figures, while students of the Ternopil Krushelnytska Music College’s vocal department performed a concert at the event.
Let us recall that busts of the singer have also long adorned the Krushelnytska National Academic Opera and Ballet in Lviv and Milan’s La Scala. A bronze bust was erected in another Italian city, Torre del Lago, in 2012, it being the venue of Krushelnytska’s triumph in the title role in Giacomo Puccini’s opera Madama Butterfly in 1904. The world’s only full-body monument was unveiled in Ternopil in 2010, where the peerless singer studied and made her first steps on the theatrical stage.
