For several days a patriotic art trolleybus has been running along the first route. It was painted in national colors and decorated with pictures of famous architecture sites of Kherson. The local artists completed the work for the money they raised on a special Internet resource. The initiators of the action say that their idea of adding an original art object to the city is giving way to a broader project.
“When the yellow-and-blue mania started across the country, we came up with an idea to present the city with something topical. We decided to restore a trolleybus, make it merrier, more pleasant for the passengers. We drew an estimate, placed announcements on the Internet, and raised over 3,000 hryvnias,” said artist Ania Kysla. “Then we went to the depot, chose a vehicle, and started to work: we polished it, covered the holes with front putty, and then painted the pictures. We chose the trolleybus that runs along the central streets, passes the railway station, and thus meets the guests of the city. We liked the process, and we continue this work. A part of the raised funds has been left, therefore we plan to change the linoleum in the trolleybus, the seat covers, set up a Wi-Fi connection, and equip the space for pictures. We want to make it as comfortable and homelike as possible. We also want it to be a place for creative exhibits and a transport for artists during some creative festivals in Kherson. The administration of the depot supports the idea.”
Ania says that she wants the trolleybuses to be more popular in the city, because this is an environment friendly way of transport, cheaper than the route taxis. “We are used to the fact that mostly old women use it, but youth should also be attracted,” the artist says, “Wi-Fi would be especially helpful. Old trams are very popular in Europe, they convey the spirit of every city. Why wouldn’t we try something like this in Kherson? But the initiative of the artists is not enough for this. We need support of the authorities and sponsors.”
