1864: Date of birth of Pavlo Hrabovsky, Ukrainian lyric poet, essayist, translator, a brilliant representative of the Ukrainian intelligentsia.

1918: The Soviet of People’s Commissars adopts a decree on the mandatory introduction in the RSFSR of the international metric system of weights and measures.

1943: In Kharkiv, the Soviet of People’s Commissars adopts a decree establishing the State Ukrainian Folk Choir (currently the Veriovka National Academic Folk Choir).

1986: The international symposium “Ivan Franko and World Culture” begins in Lviv.

1989: The Ukrainian International Conference of Evangelical Christians-Baptists is called to order in Kyiv.

1993: Holodomor victims are commemorated in Kyiv. A monument to the victims is unveiled.

1996: The first issue of the all-Ukrainian daily newspaper Den comes off the presses.

2001: The Ukraine-EU summit ends in Yalta.
