Let us remind that in 2015 Ingrid Bergman would have turned 100! According to Variety, the photo of the actress will appear on the official poster of the event. Following Marcello Mastroianni, who could be seen on past year’s poster in Cannes, now the image of the beautiful smiling Ingrid will appear everywhere. She changed her roles and countries depending on her mood, but she never lost gracefulness and simplicity, so typical for her. So, this year, the official Cannes poster will feature the actress who starred in films by Ingmar Bergman, Alfred Hitchcock, and Roberto Rossellini. Such actors as Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart, and Gregory Peck were her partners on stage. Beautiful, she was always radiating with genuine sincerity. That is why the festival organizers could not forget such an outstanding person.

“Bergman is a true modern icon, a perfect woman of the emancipation age, fearless actress, and symbol of the new realism in cinematography. With all her life and work she reflected the ideals of freedom, creative daring and modernity, which Cannes also shares,” says the statement made by festival officials.

Bergman’s daughter Isabella Rossellini admitted that she is very touched by the decision of the Cannes festival to place her mother’s portrait on the official poster. The actress’s photo, used by the poster designers, was taken by David Seymour from Magnum Photos.

Within the framework of celebrations of Bergman’s centennial birthday anniversary, the festival will also screen a documentary by Stig Bjorkman Ingrid Bergman, in Her Own Words, dedicated to the Swedish-American actress, as a part of the Classic Cannes sidebar.

Ingrid Bergman starred in such legendary films as Casablanca, Autumn Sonata, Giovanna d’Arco al rogo, several Hitchcock’s films, including Notorious and Spellbound, and films by her husband Rossellini. She won three Oscars: for Gaslight, Anastasia, and Murder on the Orient Express, and she was nominated for this award four more times.

In 1974, Bergman headed the jury of the Cannes festival. She died in 1982, on her 67th birthday.

The 68th Cannes festival will take place from May 13 to 24. Its jury will be headed by directors Joel and Ethan Coen. The announcement of the official program of the festival is to take place on April 16.
