For the first time ever, Ukrainian audience will get to listen to a unique genre of Spanish art, which is called zarzuela. This is a mix of musical and spoken parties. The popularity of the genre in Spain began in the late 19th and early 20th century. Works of this kind mostly expressed patriotic sentiments of their creators, glorifying legends of Spain, its heroes and traditions. The concert’s organizers told The Day that some Spanish zarzuela premieres brought together several thousand spectators these days, and concerts took place in huge halls, and sometimes even in stadiums.

The Kyiv event will feature several instrumental and vocal parties composed by Joaquin Turina and Emmanuel Chabrier; arias, duets, and instrumental parties from Spanish zarzuelas by Manuel de Falla, Ruperto Chapi, Francisco Barbieri, Pablo Sorozabal, Pablo Luna, Federico Moreno Torroba, Reveriano Soutullo, and Juan Verta; arias, duets, and fragments of opera Carmen by Georges Bizet. They will be performed by two soloists: graduate of the Conservatory and Queen Sofia College of Music in Madrid, student of the legendary Placido Domingo, tenor Israel Lozano and famous Ukrainian singer, soloist of the National Philharmonic Society Olha Chubareva (soprano), who will sing to the accompaniment of the Philharmonic’s Symphonic Orchestra (conductor Ricardo Casero, Spain).

The evening is supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in Ukraine.
