Sculpture of a woman stringing peppers together on a thread has been unveiled in the village of Velyka Dobron, Uzhhorod district.
The two villages, Velyka Dobron and Mala Dobron, have long been the ones to supply the region with chili peppers.
Endre Hidi, the sculptor, nurtured the idea of the monument for more than a year.
Once the design had been agreed to by his clients, he began working on the sandstone sculpture itself.
Nobody knows for sure when exactly did the locals start to cultivate the chili pepper, but it has since become the primary cash crop for the local population.
Almost every household here owns a chili pepper greenhouse, while most local families grow it and other vegetables all year round.
