The city’s mayor Andrii Sadovy has proposed to name two streets leading to the Euro stadium after Lviv soccer legends Karol Miklosz and Lev Brovarsky: “These two streets have no name yet, thus I ask the community to discuss the matter, and should it be approved, we will submit the proposal to the city council when it reconvenes.” Let us recall that Miklosz (1915-2003) was a famous Ukrainian soccer player, referee, and sports official. He played central striker and had started his professional soccer career in Ukraina Sports Society in 1932. Miklosz went to play in the Liga Okregowa, the second most prestigious soccer league in Poland, beginning in 1934. He was on the winning squad of Ukraina when the team won the championship of Galicia in 1942. Later on, Miklosz was chairman of the Soccer Federation of Lviv Oblast and director of Karpaty club of Lviv. He was proclaimed an honorary citizen of Lviv. Brovarsky (1948-2009) was a famous soccer player and coach. His record for most games played for Karpaty, 412 in total, still stands. He was the team’s captain for a long time, won the Cup of the Soviet Union in 1969, was called to the Soviet national team and awarded Master of Sport of the USSR and Merited Coach of Ukraine ranks. Brovarsky has been recognized as the best player in Karpaty’s history.
