1669: Ukraine’s Starshyna [military elite] Rada [Council] convenes with [Hetman] Petro Doroshenko to recognize Turkey’s protectorate over Left-Bank Ukraine.

1917: Mykhailo Hrushevsky is elected as head of the Central Rada in Kyiv.

1944: In the course of Proskurov-Chernivtsi offensive, troops of the First Ukrainian Front enter Vinnytsia and cross the river Southern Buh.

1947: Kharkiv’s Transport Machine-Building Works produces Ukraine’s first TE-1 1,000-horsepower locomotive.

1992: Kyiv hosts a CIS summit.

1995: Ukraine signs a trade and technological cooperation agreement with the United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi – the first one between Ukraine and a Persian Gulf country.

1995: Ukraine-Russia talks are held in Kyiv, resulting in the restructuring of Ukraine’s debts to the Russian Federation.
