1848: An armed rebellion in Lviv is suppressed by Austrian authorities.

1939: The Supreme Soviet of the USSR passes the bill annexing Western Ukraine to the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.

1941: Soviet troops retreat from Simferopol after pitched battles with the Wehrmacht.

1941: A task force is formed under the aegis of the Military Council of the Soviet Southwestern Front to supervise partisan (guerilla) warfare behind the Wehrmacht’s rear lines.

1945: The Central Ukrainian Emigre Representation is founded in Aschaffenburg (Germany).

1974: Donbasivska Power Plant starts generating in Donetsk oblast, using the Soviet Union’s first 1,500-kilometer power transmission lines.

2004: The Central Election Committee of Ukraine finishing counting 94.24 percent of the ballots, with 40.12 percent in Yanukovych’s favor and 39.5 percent in Yushchenko’s favor.
