Traditionally nearly 200 Ukrainian publishing houses will be presented in the Kyiv Institute of Physical Education. The Day will also make a presentation of a new book Syla Miakoho Znaka abo Povernennia Ruskoi Pravdy (The Power of the Soft Sign or Return of Rus’ Truth), a part of newspaper library project. Right after the premiere at the Lviv Forum of Publishers book evoke wide response. For two months now it’s been among the bestsellers in the network of popular bookstore Ye (currently the 16th place in Top-20). By the way, fair visitors can buy books at publisher’s prices. Thus, they will have something to read in the long winter evenings. In short, these are books for winter, if to rephrase Ivan Malkovych (one of his collections of poetry was called Virshi na Zymu (Poems for Winter)).

“Every time organizing Medvin we try to come up with something new,” says project manager Valeria OLEKSIIENKO. “This time 10 Russian publishing houses applied to participate in the fair. Russian Book Union will bring mobile exhibit ‘Cultural Heritage of the CIS,’ which features the best books of the Commonwealth and was presented in Moscow and Baku. Obviously, we have ambitions to attract more and more visitors from abroad. We also have ambitions to turn the fair into a commercial exposition, where publishers could communicate with libraries and booksellers, and copyright for works of famous foreign writers would be presented.”

“For the first time Ukrainian Library Association has joined the project,” continues Oleksiienko. “It will conduct its events within the framework of the fair: training sessions, seminars, exhibits, etc. Contest for Taras Shevchenko twins also launched on October 19. The event was organized by the Kapranovs brothers – curators of Medvin’s cultural part. The winner will be announced on November 13. By the way, actor Taras Denysenko is among the jury members. He played Shevchenko in the film Poet i Kniazhna (The Poet and the Princess) and in the documentary Tarash Shevchenko. Zapovit (Taras Shevchenko. Testament).”

In general in three days of Medvin fair over 300 events will take place: presentations of new books, meetings with authors, autograph sessions, etc. Some events will be held outside the Institute of Physical Education in Kyiv universities and coffee shops.

Next Medvin will be held on December 7 through 10. Just before St. Nicholas day, New Years, and Christmas Kyivites have special demand for books. A book is always a good gift.
