The annual Intercession Day fair will be held in the city on October 15, simultaneously with the Pumpkin Festival, the first of its kind ever to occur in the city and entire region. The event’s main stage will be Arts Boulevard that runs through the city’s historic center between Cathedral Square and Victory Square. One of the festival’s co-sponsors, head of the organizing committee for Country of Childhood Is a Dream Country citywide project Svitlana Zhavoronkova has announced at the meeting of local NGOs’ leaders that various competitions will be held on this day. In particular, Zhytomyr residents will be invited to try and construct the biggest pumpkin pile in competition with each other. Home-grown pumpkins and those bought at the fair will be equally eligible for the contest. City council member Tetiana Ivanytska is also actively involved in organizing the event and promised that soldiers from the local garrison will cook pumpkin porridge in their camping kettles and give it to everyone for free. The municipality’s website offered only a few terse lines about the event as of October 11, although it certainly deserves much more advertising. So, tour operators in general and Kwim Travel company in particular were completely justified in reproaching the city administration for insufficient advertising of the municipal events that may attract tourists’ attention.
