The presentation event on the Ukrainian superheroes book was hosted by the Bukrek Publishing House and by the original author, Bukovynian writer Lesia Voroniuk-Voloshyna. The illustrations were created by Sofia Rozumenko. Children and parents, who visited the presentation, interestedly reviewed the first issue of the comic titled “Saving a lark.” The prototypes are our modern Ukrainian heroes who courageously defend our country in the east these days. “I am a young mother and I understand that Ukrainian children need a Ukrainian book,” says Voroniuk-Voloshyna. “Our market is full of books about animals, nature, seasons, and other fairy tales. But there are no children’s books on contemporary Ukrainian heroes, which could be a role model for our children. Today we have a lot of heroes in the eastern Ukraine, and they have become the prototypes of our comic heroes Cyborg and Krip. And then there are heroes who are not at war, but who do a lot in the civilian life, for instance female volunteers. It is important: our superheroes are not just any fictional characters; they are all taken from life of modern Ukrainians.” There are at least ten stories about the adventures of Ukrainian superheroes planned, and they are going to be translated into English in order to have the children from other countries learn about our patriotic warriors.
