Everybody Dance

15 April, 2003 - 00:00

The Kyiv Meridian Sports Complex hosted a contest in ballroom dancing for the mayor’s cup, Parade of Hopes-2003, with dancers from Ukraine and abroad taking part.

A Kyiv couple performing in the adult category, Dmytro Vlokh and Olha Urumova, struck gold on the first day of the contest. Incidentally, they won in this category last year as well. The silver went to Denis Khadzh and Galina An from Russia, and bronze to Maksym Bulanny and Kateryna Spasytel from Donetsk. In the Latin American dance program, Dmytro and Olha won the silver, the gold going to Oleksandr Prysiazhniuk and Anastasiya Kyslina, with Roman Myrkin and Nataliya Bidniahina taking the bronze.

The winners in the Juniors-2 category were a Moldovan couple, Dmytro Daha and Natalia Shandru. An Indian couple, Oleksandr Kravchuk and Anzhelika Kumar, placed second, and Russians Ivan Novykov and Maryna Klymenko third. Gold in the Latin American program of this category went to Hlib Cherniavsky and Kateryna Mykytenko.

Formation performances with a number of couples dancing simultaneously were quite fascinating to watch. Although new in the art of the dance, this trend has many followers. Gold in this category went to a dance ensemble of the Sport Dance Club, trained by of Meritorious Coach of Ukraine Valentyna Fedorchuk.
