Exhibition of Good Taste

22 April, 2003 - 00:00

On April 16 an all-Ukrainian photo exhibition titled Woman, My Love opened at the Ukrainian House Palace of Arts. It displays 120 photographs by 97 authors from 19 oblasts, including Kyiv, the Crimea, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Mykolayiv, Poltava, Ivano-Frankivsk, Odesa, Lviv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Sevastopol, Rivne, Donetsk, etc. Good taste is the exhibition’s characteristic feature. The high technical level of the pictures along with the variety of women’s images and plots chronicle the unique role of a woman in contemporary Ukrainian society. The exhibition features works by renowned members of the Photo Artists’ Union of Ukraine: Mykola Seliuchenko, Tetiana and Oleksandr Serhiyenko, Valery Levishchenko, Leonid Milevsky, Yevhen Kom, Natalia Kompantseva, Oleh Burbovsky, Valentyna Opolska, Vyacheslav Kostiukov, Mykola Zavhorodny, Yevhen Komarov, Oleksandr Kharvat, Leonid Shevchuk, and others. Ukrainian photo art has occupied a notable place in the world, especially in the last decade. This has been significantly furthered by the Photo Artists’ Union joining the FIAP (the International Federation of Photographic Art) under UNESCO. During this period our artists have won over 2500 awards in various prestigious international exhibitions and contests under the aegis of FIAP: Grand Prizes, gold, silver, and bronze medals, prizes, diplomas, etc. Sixty union members are awarded with FIAP honorary titles, reports Natalia ZHYTARIUK, Chernivtsi.
