May 8 through 14 First Hollywood Festival of the Best Ukrainian films, organized by the National Union of Filmmakers of Ukraine, will be held in the capital of American cinematography. The films will be screened at the movie theater Laemmle Music Hall, located in a prestigious district of Los Angeles. The program will present such significant films as The White Bird with a Black Mark, Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors, A Well for the Thirsty, and Only Old Men Are Going to Battle, shot by Yurii Illienko, Serhii Parajanov, and Leonid Bykov. The organizers of the festival have not forgotten about the contemporary Ukrainian cinematography which, although going through difficult times these days, is still trying to develop the national art of cinema in complicated economic circumstances. The American audience will have an opportunity to see Mykhailo Illienko’s film Firecrosser, which was released on big screen in 2012, as well as The Tribe shot in 2014 by director Myroslav Slaboshpytsky. Director Roman Balaian and famous actress of theater and cinema Larysa Kadochnykova were invited to Hollywood as honorary guests.
