This opening is dedicated to the 75th birth anniversary of Fedir Tetianych (Freepulia). Besides paintings, the exposition includes the author’s artifacts, archive photos and videos, some of which are displayed for the first time ever.
According to ipro.kiev.ua, Freepulia’s entire artistic practice manifested the emancipation of art and the liberation of an artistic act of any limitations and formalities. The artist’s performances were extremely picturesque, due to bright costumes and numerous attributes, and his paintings were performative. Suffice it to recollect the artist’s famous Cossack Mamai (photo) or Three Cossacks featuring two warriors; when it was displayed, Tetianych would lie under it with an axe, thus making the third Cossack.
Tetianych was seriously ahead of his time. Some contemporaries refused to take him seriously and considered him an eccentric. In reality Tetianych had developed not only his own philosophic conception, but he transformed his entire life into one artistic act. Creating his original world, “Freepulia’s world,” he became an embodiment of true freedom and shaped the image of the new artist: a thinker, a generator of ideas, universal man without limitations.
The exhibit will be open through March 12.
