A year ago at a Ukraine-Macedonia business forum at the Chamber of Commerce and Economy of Ukraine, the business circles of Ukraine learned about Macedonia’s outstanding economic success, even amidst the economic crisis. During the forum, Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia Zoran Stavreski and president of the Kyiv Slavonic University (KSU) Yurii Alekseev signed a memorandum on cooperation, with the intention of creating a Macedonian cultural, informational, and business center. For many years, the University, together with the Embassy of the Republic of Macedonia to Ukraine, has been holding the Ukraine-wide Olympiad in Macedonian studies. The Embassy awards the winners of the Olympiad with tours to Macedonia. In the new academic year, due to the active assistance from the Embassy of Macedonia, the Department of Macedonian is being opened at the KSU. Thanks to support from the leading Macedonian universities, the Macedonian language and literature will soon become a degree course in Ukraine. This will benefit linguists, specialists in international relations, journalists, and especially managers in the tourism industry. Over the past two years Ukrainian tourists have been increasingly exploring Macedonia, the birthplace of Alexander the Great, Aristotle, Justinian, Sts. Cyril and Methodius, and the world’s first slavic university.
