Meridian Czernowitz Festival to take place on September 2-4

The Second International “Meridian Czernowitz” festival will take place in Chernivtsi on September 2-4 this year. Its main aim is returning Chernivtsi to the cultural map of Europe and developing a dialog between modern Ukrainian poets and their foreign colleagues. The program includes poetic readings, discussions, lectures, photo poetry and sculpture, as well as exhibits connected to poetry, theatrical and music performances, book presentations, video poetry, poetry in animation, ska punk and jazz-rock poetry, and electro poetry (poetry combined with electronic music). There will also be video installations on the external walls of buildings… The participants of the event are the most interesting and famous poets, musicians and artists from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Moldova, Ukraine, Poland, Romania, France, Great Britain and the US. Among them are Michael Augustin, Hans-Michael Speier (publisher of the Celan-Jahrbuch collection), Uljana Wolf (all Germany); Robert Schindel, Milena Findeis (Austria); Ilma Rakusa, Raphael Urweide, Erwin Messmer and Hans Ruprech (Switzerland); Emmanuel Moses and Bruno Geneste (France), Hagit Grossman (Israel), Bogdan Zadura (Poland); as well as Yurii Andrukhovych, Serhii Zhadan, Ihor Pomerantsev, Andrii Bondar, Oleksandr Irvanets, Ostap Slyvynsky, Bohdana Matiash, Kateryna Babkina and others.

The participants’ chosen works will be published in a joint collection in the original languages. They will also be translated by Marko Bielorusets (Ukraine), Claudia Dathe (Germany), Stefania Ptashnyk (Germany), Petro Ryhlo (Ukraine). The event will be covered by mass media from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Ukraine, Poland, Romania, France and the US.
