Where there is no law, but every man does what is right in his own eyes, there is the least of real liberty

“The Sea of Dreams”

8 December, 2009 - 00:00

Akvatoria sniv — The Sea of Dreams — is the name of Yulia Boborykina’s solo exhibit at the Griffon Gallery. The young artist studied in Kyiv and Moscow. She harmoniously, albeit at times unexpectedly, combines graphics, design, calligraphy, and poetry. A number of her works are continuations of her poems, although there is no telling which came first, a visual or poetic image. This kind of graphic accompaniment does not serve to illustrate the text (the more so that her poetry cannot be illustrated for the most part). This accompaniment has various functions: concretizing an unusual image (A Said Passerby I Saw in a Dream, A Dream that Slipped from my Purse, and The Swings), conveying the artist’s mood (A Dream about St. Petersburg, Taking a Walk, and The Wind), playing with the viewer/reader (When the Fall Comes, The First Dream I Saw), or creating an effective design based on a certain subject (Minarets).
