The Days of Zhytomyr will be held on September 7-10. This time audiences will be able to see a rich program at different locations, as Zhytomyr will be celebrating the 1,133rd anniversary of its foundation, zhitomir.info reports.
One of the pleasant surprises will be a performance of the popular Kyiv Modern Ballet under direction of the well-known choreographer Radu Poklitaru. The troupe will show Swan Lake: Contemporary Version on Koroliov Square on September 8 at 7 p.m. Poklitaru himself wrote the libretto to the music of Pyotr Tchaikovsky. This production is a parable rather than a sweet fairytale, which raises philosophical questions, such as impossibility to live contrary to one’s nature. A baby swan is kidnapped from the flock, and the evil genius Rothbart transforms it into the youth Siegfried. He is now in the castle, oblivious of his past, and he can see only in his nighttime dreams that he has wings instead of arms and birds are sailing by, the most beautiful of which is Odette. But in reality Siegfried wakes up in bed with Princess Odile… This story implies that one who was born as swan cannot crawl, while the absence of wings will not prevent one from flying up, even if it is the first and last flight. In the ballet, Rothbart’s warriors shoot the defenseless swans with rifles and put on their wings as war trophies. This symbolizes all the senselessness and cruelty of any war.
Also on the Days program is a performance of the actors of the Zhytomyr Ivan Kocherha Music and Drama Theater (stage director: Petro Avramenko) and a fire show by the Mahatma Theater of Fire.
