Grand International Music Festival to be held in Kyiv from September 20 until December 20

CURRENTLY KYIV HOSTS THE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL “DAYS OF MUSIC OF MYROSLAV SKORYK” DEDICATED TO THE 75th BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FAMOUS MAESTRO AND TEACHER. MUSIC NIGHT OF THE COMPOSER’S MUSIC WILL BE HELD AT THE GRAND HALL OF THE NATIONAL MUSIC ACADEMY ON SEPTEMBER 24. The festival brings together graduates and professors of the Pyotr Tchaikovsky National Music Academy, stars of Ukrainian and world culture, including Denis Matsuev, Vadim Rudenko, Taras Shtonda, Liudmyla Monastyrska, Angelina Shvachka, Dmytro Tkachenko, and Bohdana Pivnenko, the leading musicians of foreign countries, as well as such famous music groups as the Hryhorii Veriovka National Folk Choir of Ukraine, ensembles “Kyivska Kamerata” and “Kyivski Solisty.”

“The festival program includes compositions by the founders of Kyiv Conservatory. In particular, the festival will open with the concert ‘Musical Dedication to Pyotr Tchaikovsky’ and will end on December 20 with ‘Dedication to Sergei Rachmaninoff.’ Special concert series – ‘The Outstanding Figure of the Academy,’ ‘Unforgettable names,’ dedicated to those who glorified the Academy and the entire Ukrainian music culture, including Ivan Kozlovsky, Vladimir Horowitz, Stepan Turchak, Yevhen Miroshnychenko, Anatolii Solovianenko, Maria Donets-Tesseyer, Bohodar Kotorovych, Viktor Antonov, and many others,” Volodymyr ROZHOK, Rector of the National Music Academy of Ukraine, told The Day. “The festival will present the work of the Academy’s school of performing art and composition: ‘Master and His Students,’ ‘Teacher and His Students,’ ‘Young Teachers of the Academy,’ ‘A New Generation of Ukrainian Musicians.’ And the Opera Studio will present masterpieces of opera classics.”

Within the framework of the festival there will be held the celebrations of the 200th birth anniversaries of Semen Hulak-Artemovsky and Giuseppe Verdi, 140th birth anniversaries of Sergei Rachmaninoff (special projects “Kyiv Season of Rachmaninoff,” and “December Nights”) and Feodor Chaliapin, 75th birth anniversary of Stepan Turchak, as well as birth anniversaries of our outstanding contemporaries: 75th anniversary of Myroslav Skoryk (International Festival “Days of Music of Myroslav Skoryk”), 80th anniversary of Anatolii Avdiievsky, and 85th anniversary of Professor Volodymyr Apatsky.

The guests of VIVAT ACADEMIA! will be: the Ukraine’s National Academy of Arts, International Music Competition for Young Pianists “Sberbank Debut” (art director Denis Matsuev), the 24th International Festival “Kyiv Music Fest-2013,” Festival AVE VERDI, the Fifth International Festival Chamber Art Music, Bass Trio (Moscow), Sretensky Monastery Choir, Museum of Alexander Skriabin (Moscow), International Jazz Subscription, International Children’s Festival “Khortytsia Chords” (Zaporizhia), professors from the music academies in Basel (Switzerland), Juilliard (US), and Krakow (Poland).

The 11th Open Children’s Music Competition “In memory of Pyotr Tchaikovsky” in Kamianka (Cherkasy oblast) is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Academy. The composer kept coming to this city for 28 years and created most of his masterpieces there.

Some presentations are also timed to the anniversary: presentations of the book Pyotr Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine is 100, the film The Academy at Turn of the Century, and the charity night “Dedication to Ukraine’s Patrons: Mykhailo Tereshchenko” (organized with the initiative and support of his grandson Michel Tereshchenko).

The culmination of the anniversary events will be the concert night at the National Opera of Ukraine held on November 5. The concert program includes compositions performed by Student Symphony Orchestra of the Academy and by the outstanding graduates of alma mater. It is expected that the concert will be attended by the state officials, prominent public figures of Ukraine, representatives of UNESCO, rectors of the University of Paris-Sorbonne, the Academy of Music in Krakow, as well as music academies in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Saratov, Kazan, and Minsk, and also by the president of the Academy of “La Scala” Theater, along with other honorary guests.

Grand Festival VIVAT ACADEMIA! will be held with the assistance of the embassies of Russia, Germany, the US, France, Switzerland, Italy, Poland, Brazil, Norway, and international art missions of different countries.
