The Day has already reported that album Lord of Stone Ring was being prepared for publishing in Lviv. The album is dedicated to hallowed memory of Borys Voznytsky (1926-2012), director of the Lviv Art Gallery, Hero of Ukraine. Voznytsky founded a unique “Museum of Museums,” preserving numerous historical and cultural monuments from destruction, preserving masterpieces of icon painter Yov Kondzelevych and sculptor Johann Georg Pinzel, enriching our national heritage by active participation in reconstruction and museumification of Baturyn, creating “Art Arsenal,” organizing numerous exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad.
Recently the authors of the album – Taras Shevchenko Prize winner and writer Roman Lubkivsky and photo artist Vasyl Pylypiuk, made an open public presentation. The book features fragments of interviews, excerpts from Borys Voznytsky’s research, and also thoughts of Academician Voznytsky taken from his diary.
The album was published by the publishing house “Svitlo i Tin” in the series “Postati” (Outstanding Personalities). Presentation was attended by the head of Lviv Oblast State Administration Mykhailo Kostiuk, CEO of the Lviv Art Gallery Larysa Razinkova, Hero of Ukraine Yurii Shukhevych, art critics, and museum workers.
“We often say that there are no irreplaceable people but no one would ever take place of Borys Voznytsky,” said director of Lviv Historical Museum Bohdan Chaikovsky at the presentation. “He was an example for us in everything.”
“I can’t stop thinking about the exhibition of Pinzel art works at the Louvre, the way Europeans, Japanese looked at sculptures of a Ukrainian master,” said head of Lviv Oblast State Administration Mykhailo Kostiuk. “I think it is a powerful message to the international community about what Ukraine and Ukrainians are capable of.”
The idea of creating the album Lord of Stone Ring emerged when Voznytsky was still alive. But while the authors and publishers were selecting material from a vast amount of information, a tragedy happened – on May 23, 2012 Borys Voznytsky died in a car crash… Thus, the project had to be somewhat changed: the authors added text and photo materials from Voznytsky’s childhood and young years to the album because without this information it would be impossible to understand the entire image of the Lord of Stone Ring, who became a symbol of universal talent of an eminent art historian, museum curator, and culturologist.
