A map of the Crimean peninsula with a thousand of “green men” on it – in such a way public activists, mostly members of the public organization “Crimea SOS,” expressed their attitude to the annexation of Crimea. The action, timed to 1,000 days of the occupation of Crimea by the Russian Federation took place in front of the RF General Consulate at 95, Levytsky Street.
Lviv artists Vlodko Kaufman and Volodymyr Stetskovych helped the Crimean residents to create the artistic performance.
Besides the militarization of a “sandbox,” the activists threw planes made of paper sheets with the text of the resolution of the UN General Assembly of March 27, 2014 on territorial integrity of Ukraine across the fence.
They also mentioned that during the occupation there have been 269 violations of human rights in Crimea, 9 Crimean residents were killed, and 15 are missing.
The action went peacefully. The police officers who were on duty near the building of the diplomatic institution didn’t set any obstacles to the activists. There was no reaction from the employees of the RF General Consulate either.
“I am sure that a day will come when we will return to our fatherland,” a “Crimea SOS” activist Enver Bekirov said. A huge banner on the building of the city council located at Rynok Square, in the very heart of Lviv, reminds of the 1,000-day-long occupation of Crimea by the Russian Federation. It shows the Ukrainian coat of arms, the trident, and the coat of arms of the Crimean Tatars, taraq tamga. There is also an inscription in Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar languages that reads, “Together we are fighting for freedom.”
