Oligarch Ivanishvili founds a new party and goes to parliamentary elections

Last weekend an unprecedented action of the opposition, first in a year time, took place in Tbilisi, Georgia. It was organized by Bidzina Ivanishvili, a well-known oligarch without Georgian citizenship, who knocked up a fortune in Russia. Last fall he declared about his intention to create a political party, Georgian Dream, and take part in the elections.

Ivanishvili stated in his speech: “We are launching the struggle with an aim to strengthen a free business environment, favor the development of production, and create the guaranties of inviolability of property and social protection of the employed, which help overcome the unemployment and create new jobs.” Other points of the program include the struggle for fair justice, liberation of law-enforcement bodies from political pressure, unity of Georgia and full-fledged membership of united and strong democratic Georgia in the European Union and NATO. Besides, it undertakes to provide all the citizens with an insurance package of free medical services, guaranties available quality education, development of villages, help in development of cooperative households and farms. Not only is Ivanishvili promising pedagogues worthy wages and social protection, but also the guaranty that nobody will fire them for political beliefs. He promises pensioners to pay such pensions that will allow them to live a worthy life, and veterans of war and labor – respect and corresponding social benefits. “Whatever the authorities plan and undertake, this struggle will be accomplished and the result will be our victory,” Ivanishvili noted with confidence.
