Volyn National Lesia Ukrainka University restored a tradition and held the second Viennese Ball aimed at raising funds to build the university’s temple of St. Sophia the Divine Wisdom. The university’s Viennese Ball, held due to the initiative of the Rector, Prof. Ihor Kotsan, can become another Volyn trademark, as it attracts not only students and teachers but also well-known local businessmen. The university temple is being erected owing to a combination of efforts. Construction will probably begin in the spring of this year. Those present at the ball had an opportunity to make their donations to a valid cause, and to do so in an exquisite atmosphere. This charitable Viennese Ball was held in accordance to the traditions of classical balls. There was a dress code for participants, which forced many women to tap into their feminine nature and have an evening dress made – perhaps for the first time in their life. Many also had to learn to dance, and not just the waltz, but also the tango, foxtrot, and Latin American dances. Those who wished could attend special dancing classes at the university, while dancing masters conducted master classes during the ball itself. This filled the future temple’s treasury to with dozens of thousands of hryvnias. Some of those funds were raised during the ball by auctioning off pictures painted by the Institute of Arts’ students.
