The librarians of Kirovohrad recently conducted a curious experiment during the Festival of Books for Youth. It was named “The scales of fate: books or Internet?” Festival visitors and just any interested passers-by (since the event took place in the open on Dvirtseva Street) could vote for either books or Internet by placing nuts (provided by the organizers) on the scales. A total of 735 people participated in the vote. At the end of The Day, the book won: 375 people gave their votes for it. The Day, too, is certain of the everlasting value of the conventional printed books. This year, the newspaper celebrated the 10th anniversary of its own library and published a new series that consists of 15 books. Of course, in the harsh conditions of today, we are looking for sponsors for our every initiative, and luckily, we find them every time, and cannot thank them enough. And we appeal to those our followers that are unable to purchase the books by themselves, to find sponsors who understand the importance of intelligence and are ready to support it.

Recently, The Day shared its “Armor-Piercing Political Writing” with the Boichenko Kirovohrad Oblast Library for Youth, thus supporting students of the region. As the head of library’s book acquisition department Tetiana Yaskiv stated in the letter to the newspaper, the library needs the best examples of political writing of the 19th and 20th centuries, because they are highly demanded by the readers. So, from now on, this library’s visitors will be able to read “armor-piercing thoughts” of the Ukrainian intellectual elite, including the ones of their fellow countryman Yevhen Malaniuk. “We are subscribed to The Day, and that is where we learned about the new series from. This truthful newspaper publishes both Lina Kostenko and Oxana Pachlovska. This is the only newspaper in Ukraine that has the courage to publish their materials. Thank you for being there. “Armor-Piercing Political Writing” will find its readers in our library, because these books hold answers to all the burning questions of today,” Yaskiv said upon receiving The Day’s new series from the paper’s staff. And The Day, in its turn, is hoping to expand its fan base for account of critically-minded young people from Kirovohrad and oblast, the land that is home to many outstanding Ukrainians.
