During this week, Vinnytsia officials, NGO representatives, as well as leading experts on energy, transport, and environment from the EU Delegation in Ukraine will be teaching energy saving techniques to citizens and guests of Vinnytsia. In that regard, there will be a series of quests, workshops, and exhibitions of energy efficient equipment and materials. The experts will also visit the utility services of the city and give an advice on how to save budget money.
As a part of the European Week of Sustainable Energy, the Velo-city has opened on Independence Square on Monday. There, advices are given on how to choose a bike, which route to take for the first tour, and what are the main secrets for taking care of a two-wheeled friend. For fans of cycling, there is a display of latest bike models, which are also available for a test drive. Meanwhile, the Eco-city has unfolded on the European Square, where young citizens can play entertaining and educational games every day. Adults are able to visit a specialized exhibition on energy-saving materials, technologies, and equipment. But the greatest attraction for the visitors is an electric car – being recharged by a mere 20 hryvnias worth of electricity, it can cover more than 100 kilometers.
And on June 16-17 the main event of the European sustainable energy week – 9th Annual International Conference “Towards energy independence with the Covenant of Mayors: Challenge accepted!” was held by the Association “Energy Efficient Cities of Ukraine.” It is expected, that Vinnytsia might receive a special award, which no other city in Ukraine has won so far.
