The Chernivtsi Regional Center “Sport for All” organized a double-record-setting event under the auspices of the Book of Records of Ukraine at a tourist complex in the village of Boiany, Novoselytsia raion, Chernivtsi oblast. Both records belong to the field of winter recreation activities, being a mass simultaneous downhill and the largest ever Ukrainian snow tube “train.”
The ski record was set by the complex’s 146 patrons coming from Chernivtsi, Khmelnytsky, and Ternopil regions as well as a few tourists from Moldova. The organizers said they had expected even more participants of the simultaneous downhill, but still, it is the first ever record in this category to be set in Ukraine, it has entered the Book of Records of Ukraine and, accordingly, it should prompt other ski resorts to try and surpass it. As much as 72 participants registered for the record-setting snow tube descent, but because some of them were too impatient to set a record, seven would-be record-holders were absent from the starting line, so the record-setting “train” started with just 65 participants. Accordingly, the president of the Bukovyna Book of Records, 1997 World Champion in the 100-kilometer race and holder of the national record in this category, the winner of the Cup of the USSR for marathon Serhii Yanenko presented with the Book of Records of Ukraine diplomas the tourist complex’s representative Mykhailo Kravchuk and the Sport for All Center’s director Heorhii Mazurash.
