Bush Thanks Ukraine

16 October, 2001 - 00:00

Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma received a letter from American President George Bush the Younger expressing his gratitude for the support and promising to study Ukraine’s offers to help with liquidating the outrages at the World Trade Center. At an October 11 press conference Pres. Kuchma said that he had not yet finished reading the letter and did it in journalists’ presence. In his letter President Bush notes that he expects from Ukraine “joint work in fighting terrorism,” reports Interfax Ukraine. The US president thanks Ukraine for its condolences and concern about the September 11 acts of terrorism and for its “solidarity and support” for Americans. Mr. Bush also expresses his gratitude to Leonid Kuchma for his offer to send Ukrainian rescuers to help with dismantling blockages at the World Trade Center. “The Federal Bureau of Investigation will thoroughly study the opportunity for such help,” the letter reads. President Bush presents his condolences to Ukraine about the death of Ukrainian citizens in the attack (Interfax Ukraine has also reported that two Ukrainian citizens were killed). “September 11 saw an attack against freedom, but freedom will protect itself,” the letter declares.
