The Cherkasy regional federation of sportfishing held the first Goldfish Cherkasy local children’s festival. The competition took place at the picturesque beach near the Cherkasy yachting club. Thirty-two participants aged up to 14 years took part in it. Many of the experienced adult fishermen helped the participants with the advice. “The youngest participants of the festival were only three years old. Those were Katia Tkachenko and Vlada Prozorova. These little girls neatly caught their first fish. The fishing rods were light and the parents helped them to get the fish from water and change the bait,” Serhii Rudenko, head of the regional sportfishing federation, told The Day. According to him, the board of judges decided to divide the victory among all the participants by giving them the medals with the image of goddess Nika and fishing equipment. Also the little fishermen were fed with a tasty shurpa (Uzbek soup) and cereal. We plan to hold a similar festival for orphans and children with the special needs. We have already found the sponsors,” Rudenko noted.
