1918: The Regional Committee of the Ukrainian National Council in Chernivtsi takes over political power in the Ukrainian part of Bukovyna.

1924: Council of People’s Commissars (Sovnarkom) of the USSR adopts the Decree “On Measures to Regulate Drug Trafficking.”

1927: An art gallery is launched in Sevastopol.

1939: The NKVD HQ in Moscow adopts a decree forming NKVD stations in Western Ukraine.

1943: Troops of the First Ukrainian Front enter Kyiv, clearing it of Wehrmacht forces.

1957: Park of Lasting Glory opens in Kyiv, with the Obelisk in Memory of the Unknown Soldier [with undying flame at the foot].
