1919: The Ukrainian Galician Army (UHA) launches the Chortkiv Offensive, a surprise military operation in the Polish-Ukrainian War for Eastern Galicia [Halychyna].

1949: The House of Technology opens in Kyiv.

1954: Yurii Shumsky, Ukrainian actor, stage director, founder of Kherson’s amateur drama company, passes away.

1989: An-225 Mriya, the world’s heaviest aircraft developed by Kyiv-based Antonov Design Bureau (meant to transport the Buran orbiter), flies to France to take part in the 38th Paris Air Show.

1991: The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine rules to take over the former Soviet production facilities on Ukrainian territory.

1991: The All-Ukrainian festival “Khortytsia” starts in Zaporizhia, commemorating the 500th anniversary of the Cossacks.

1993: The non-governmental International Economic Reform and Cooperation Committee is formed in Kyiv, meant to attract foreign private inland investments.
