1912: The Plast National Scout Organization of Ukraine is established in Lviv.
1919: The Sovnarkom of the USSR adopts a decree on bread apportionment.
1922: The All-Ukrainian Central Executive Committee (VUTsIK) grants an amnesty for all who fought against Soviet power in Ukraine, barring Pyotr Wrangel, Aleksandr Kutepov, Nestor Makhno, Symon Petliura, Boris Savinkov, and Yurii Tiutiunnyk.
1961: Spacecraft Vostok 1, with Soviet cosmonaut Yurii Gagarin on board, is launched into orbit — the world’s first manned space flight. Since then this date has been marked as the Cosmonautics Day.
1979: The Soviet of Ministers of the USSR resolves to open an industrial institute in Kherson.
1995: At a meeting with the EU, European Commission, and G-7 officials, President Leonid Kuchma of Ukraine announces Ukraine’s final decision to close down the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Station before 2000.
