1903: The cultural-educational Society Volia is founded in Lviv.

1918: A session of the Small Rada in Zhytomyr passes a bill instituting hryvnia as the UNR’s national currency.

1918: The UNR Army liberates Kyiv from the Bolsheviks.

1918: The Ukrainian Labor Temple is established in Winnipeg as a Ukrainian Canadian cultural non-profit organization.

1927: The first issue of the newspaper Kyiv Vechirnii comes off the presses.

1943: The Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR adopts a decree conferring the title “Hero of Socialist Labor” on Academician Yevhen Paton of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, in recognition of his outstanding merits in the sphere of electric welding.

1944: Mass renovation work begins on Khreshchatyk Str. in Kyiv.
