1918: The Central Rada and the Council of People’s Ministers of the Ukrainian National Republic are transferred from Kyiv to Zhytomyr in the face of advancing Bolshevik forces.

1919: The Provisional Workers and Peasants’ Government of Ukraine adopts a declaration on the necessity of joining the USSR and RSFSR as a socialist state.

1931: The Central Committee of the CP(B)U [KP(b)U] adopts a decree aimed at encouraging inventors’ activities in the Ukrainian and all-Union industries.

1931: “Illiteracy Liquidation Decade” is launched in the Ukrainian SSR.

1949: The 16th KP(b)U Congress is called to order, in the course of which Nikita Khrushchev is elected as First Secretary.

1955: The Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR issues a decree putting an end to the state of war between the Soviet Union and Germany.

1962: 1150 Slabbing Mill is launched at the Lenin Steelworks in Zhdanov.
