1866: Ukraine’s first Odesa-Balta railroad starts functioning.

1892: A music college is founded in Odesa (currently the Nezhdanova State Conservatory of Odesa).

1911: In Kyiv, Socialist Revolutionary Dmitri Bogrov fires his gun and lethally wounds Piotr Stolypin, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Russian Empire.

1921: The Soviet of People’s Commissars of the Ukrainian SSR adopts a decree on protection of the historical and cultural site of Pontic Olbia, an ancient Greek colony.

1951: The First Ukrainian Republican Conference of Peace Supporters begins. In the course of its work the Peace Committee is established.

1995: After Champions’ League Kyiv Dynamo v. Panathinaikos soccer match the Ukrainian team is accused of having tried to bribe the referee and is excluded from the European Cup tournaments for three years.

2011: Academician Petro Tronko, editor in chief of the journal Kraieznavstvo (Local History), dies at 97 years of age.
