1918: In the Battle of Motovylivka, the Sich Riflemen of the Directorate of the Ukrainian National Republic defeat the Hetman’s troops.

1935: Warsaw witnesses a trial over OUN members charged with complicity in the assassination of Polish Internal Affairs Minister Bronislaw Pieracki; Stepan Bandera and others are meted out capital punishment.

1993: The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ratifies START I (the first Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty with the United States).

2004: The Washington Times reads: “The United States has denied an entry visa to one of the most high-profile supporters of a Ukrainian presidential candidate backed by the Kremlin and the country’s current leader, Leonid Kuchma, and has put other allies of the candidate on the US visa watch list.”

2004: Viktor Yushchenko urges fellow Ukrainians to support his candidacy and stage a massive rally on the Maidan (Independence Square in Kyiv).
