1919: US Congress passes the Volstead Act banning the sale, manufacture, and transportation of alcohol.

1920: The Red Army’s Southern Front launches a counteroffensive, clearing Taurica [Crimea] of Wrangel’s troops.

1944: Soviet forces push all Wehrmacht troops to retreat from Ukraine.

1962: The Soviet Union undertakes to withdraw all missiles from Cuba and the United States reciprocates by lifting the blockade.

1989: The Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR passes the bill on languages, whereby Ukrainian is recognized as the official language.

2001: President Leonid Kravchuk of Ukraine and President Boris Trajkovski of Macedonia meet in the Crimea and agree on prolonging military and technological cooperation.

2006: St. Petersburg sustains the 300th flood since the city’s foundation in the 18th century, with Neva water level exceeding the critical two-meter mark by 24 cm.
