1571: In a naval clash near Lepanto the Holy League (Spain and Italy) defeats the Ottoman flotilla. This is the last major naval battle involving rowing boats.
1619: An agreement limiting the number of Registered Cossacks to three thousand people is signed by Cossack military leaders and Polish commissars.
1897: In Wilno (currently Vilnius) The General Workers Union in Lithuania, Poland, and Russia “Bund” is established.
1949: The German Democratic Republic is formed.
1959: The Soviet probe Luna 3 transmits the first ever photos of the far side of the moon.
1963: John F. Kennedy raties the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty between the Soviet Union, the US, and the UK. The treaty banned testing in the atmosphere, outer space, and under water.
1996: After re-registration the national-patriotic organization Ukrainian Cossacks acquires the status of defensive-athletic organization.
