1875: Oleksandr Murashko, a noted painter, one of the founders and first professors of the Ukrainian Art Academy, is born in Kyiv.

1891: The first Ukrainian immigrants arrive in Canada.

1943: The Wehrmacht command orders annihilation of all industrial facilities and property when retreating.

1943: SS Reichsfuehrer Himmler orders the Waffen SS and police forces in Ukraine to destroy the Donbas.

1990: The First International Ukrainian Poetry Festival Zoloty homin (The Golden Echo) is launched in Kyiv.

1988: Days of Literature of the Kazakh SSR begin in the Ukrainian SSR.

1994: A coup d’etat is attempted in the Crimea with the local parliament proclaiming a parliamentary republic.

2000: The UN Millennium Summit ends with President Leonid Kuchma of Ukraine submitting a number of proposals aimed at leading the international community to a new level of international relations.
