1934: Kyiv hosts an international teachers’ congress.

1942: The Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR institutes the Order of the Great Patriotic War, 1st and 2nd Class.

1961: The Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR institutes the Taras Shevchenko Prize, to be conferred in recognition of outstanding merits in the spheres of literature, fine arts, music, drama, and cinematography.

1961: Court hearings commence in the [Soviet dissident] cases of Levko Lukianenko, Ivan Kandyba, and other members of the Ukrainian Workers and Peasants Society.

1965: Boryspil Airport is opened near Kyiv.

1994: The Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of the Crimea reinstates the Crimean Constitution in its May 1992 wording.

1997: President Alexander Kwasniewski of Poland visits Ukraine, mostly to enhance bilateral political, economic, and humanitarian relationships.

1999: The Law of Ukraine “On the National Bank of Ukraine” comes into effect.
