1618: Burghers and Cossacks stage an anti-Uniate riot in Kyiv, killing Uniate Metropolitan Locum Tenens Antonii Hrekovych.

1873: The Southwest Branch of the Russian Geographic Society is established in Kyiv.

1919: Truce is called on the Ukrainian-Polish Front.

1921: The Fifth All-Ukrainian Congress of Soviets ratifies the Workers and Peasants’ Union Treaty between the RSFSR (Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic) and the Ukrainian SSR.

1957: The Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR adopts a decree founding the State Publishing House for Children of the Ukrainian SSR.

1992: The President of Ukraine signs an edict establishing the State Duma of Ukraine.

1994: Kyiv hosts the constituent meeting of the Intellect of Ukraine Club, among whose members are some one hundred noted scholars, cultural figures, politicians, and government members. 1994: Ukrainian figure skater Oksana Bayul wins independent Ukraine’s first Olympic gold medal. 1819:
