1649: Bohdan Khmelnytsky is elected as Hetman of Ukraine.

1848: The Halytsko-Ruska Matytsia literary and educational society is founded in Lviv.

1938: The first congress of Soviet Ukrainian artists begins, in the course of which the Union of Artists of Ukraine is formed.

1943: In the course of Operation Dnipropetrovsk, troops of the Third Ukrainian Front clear the city of the Wehrmacht.

1950: The Azovkabel Works starts manufacturing in Zaporizhia oblast.

1977: The Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR institutes the honorary title “People’s Doctor of the USSR.”

1995: The President of Ukraine starts on a visit to Argentina, Brazil, and Chile, in the course of which 15 international and intergovernmental agreements are signed.

1995: The Workers United Action Day is held in Ukraine, with leftist forces stages rallies in a number of cities, protesting the government’s and the president’s economic policy.
